Clean through the cage and test the pointed lower guard

Use a soft brush from both sides of the face so debris leaves the spaces between the skull and bands. Avoid pushing a polishing cloth under the narrow straps, which can apply leverage to the rivet details. The pointed guard can press a neighboring finger if the ring rotates, so use a stable fit and check clearance while making a fist. Avoid metal-specific chemicals until composition is confirmed.
